The LevelUp! Video Game Music Band is online!

It's June 15, 2023 and our website has been launched!

Who are we?

We are a band playing Video Game Music Live on stage. Our roots are in the 80s and 90s, the chiptune music made by a chip and pieces of music programmed by musicians/programmers.

Our mascot is a real Dutch potato in Japanese cartoon style. The mascot was created because a number of band members own an MSX computer. The MSX computer was very popular in Japan in the 80's and early 90's. Mix everything together and you get a smiling Dutch potato in Japanese cartoon style.

Video games, music and LevelUp!

A large number of video games appeared on the MSX but also on other platforms such as the Commodore 64 and Nintendo. Those computers were very popular in Europe. In the beginning, the video games were copies of existing Arcade video games. The most famous Arcade video game is Pac Man.

To make the video game even more fun, images were supported with background music and sound effects. It was precisely that background music or otherwise called video game music that sometimes became characteristic of a video game. Some music are complete pop songs and some sound effects are legendary (the snapping Pac Man).

Computers got faster, storage memory for video games got bigger and tools got more real. This affected video game music. The MSX, Commodore and old Nintendo's became retro computers. But the music that was already being made with those retro computers can be called legendary. All band members have a passion for retro computers, video games and accompanying music. And 'Level Up!' is of course a term from the video game world.

We are bringing the video game music back to life on stage!
